In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the forced closure of “non-essential” service businesses put millions of Americans out of work. While their services may not be essential to your survival, their income is essential to their survival. We are asking that you consider paying for non-rendered monthly services you would normally receive.

This is a donation, not a gift certificate. This is to help businesses maintain and sustain positive cashflow through the lockdown. This includes services such as hair styling, dog walking, child care, private lessons, house cleaning, nail and wax treatments, and so on. You can do this through Venmo, Zelle and other digital payment services. Check with your service providers.

Finally, be creative. Maybe you can think of other ways to help? Please share your ideas. While this problem is bigger than all of us, through collective small actions we can make a huge difference in our communities.

This site is spot on. My husband and I have paid our housekeeper because her family does so much to take care of our family. She comes whenever my mom needs anything and that is priceless because my mom is disabled and deaf. We also paid our hairstylists and nail people. We also have been over tipping the delivery food people. We are taking the quarantine very seriously. Stay home and stay safe!

De, Writer

We happily paid our bug guy in full last week, even though he could only do the outside of the house. And we plan to honor our hair appointments virtually, by Venmo-ing our much-loved hairdresser the money (plus tip) on the days we were scheduled. I’ve been extending lots of extra grace to my agencies who pay me monthly by retainer. We’re also trying hard to support local when it comes to our (infrequent) takeout, and tip big when we do. If the love of people isn’t enough of a motivator for you, think of it like this: what small businesses and self-employed services do you want to still be around in a few months? It’s that simple.

Jay, Hairstylist

As the shut down happened, my income quickly went to $0. Out of the blue, a wonderful client sent me money to cover a “virtual” haircut that he deemed “essential.” A beautiful completely unexpected gesture. I’m very grateful.

Joshua, Mechanic

I have a monthly cleaning service. A lot of people, including myself, were forced to pause this monthly service. Unfortunately, this meant that the cleaners were working less hours with less tips. I reached out to them to pay my full monthly amount with tip. I want there to still be a cleaning service when this is over. And I want the company and their families to have the financial support they rely on.

The day social distancing became mandatory and many businesses were categorized as “non-essential,” I immediately became concerned for friends whose businesses were affected. I just wanted to help and so I immediately sent a payment to my hair salon and told them to keep it, and that I’d see them next month and I’d pay in full again. It’s money I can live without that may go a long way in keeping them whole if others join in. It just felt like the right thing to do.

Stacey V., Owner/Hairstylist

God is truly good, I recently just checked my checking account just because I haven’t checked it in a few days, AND I saw there was a Zelle deposit from 2 days ago from a client JUST BECAUSE. I immediately called her to be sure there was no mistake. She stated she had been in a similar situation, where she had no income coming in and she knew how it felt, the worry and anxiety it could cause. My heart is overwhelmed with JOY, Just to see God using people in this way. AND THEN, to hear about this website!! GOD TRULY IS WORKING!
